SOCIAL WORKER (TEMPORARY)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Day One seeks a Social Worker to support the provision of social services to young survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence (IPSV) aged 24 and under. Working under the supervision of Day One’s Associate Director of Social Services, the Social Worker will support Day One’s social services department in the provision of a wide range of social services, including but not limited to both individual and support group counseling as well as case management services. Case management tasks include completing intake assessments, safety planning, advocacy, and referrals. This is a temporary position for a minimum of four months with the possibility of extended and/or permanent hire.

Since 2003, Day One has devoted its full resources to preventing intimate partner and sexual violence (IPSV) among young people. Day One partners with New York City youth to end IPSV through a combination of preventive and direct services. Our multi-disciplinary approach brings together a highly collaborative staff with expertise in legal and social services, prevention education and youth leadership development. Serving New York City youth up to 24 years of age, our Direct Services Program provides direct legal representation, advice and information, individual and group counseling and case management services to survivors.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Deliver trauma-informed anti-oppressive counseling to individuals and groups affected by dating violence
Conduct intakes and assessments, which may include safety, trauma, or suicide assessments
Provide crisis intervention and respond to helpline calls, texts and email inquiries as needed
Responsible for planning, recruitment, curriculum development and delivery of support groups
Provide information and complete applications for OVS victim compensation
Support team with onboarding and training of new social work staff, interns and volunteers
Provide task supervision to social work interns
Document program and client activity, maintain complete digital and physical case files
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team of legal and social services staff on high-risk, complicated, and/or multi-service cases
Attend weekly clinical supervision, monthly group supervision, staff meetings, and strategic planning meetings
Attend trainings that are relevant to role and client related work
Contribute to conversations related to program growth, strategy, and evaluation
Help create and maintain a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace and learning
environment, and commit to principles combating racism and gender inequality
Other related duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications
Master of Social Work degree with a minimum of two years of related work experience; LMSW required
Experience providing direct services is required, preferably with youth and/or victims of IPSV
Experience with group facilitation a plus; interest in youth, IPV, and/or family law encouraged
A high sense of integrity, responsibility and initiative
Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred
Enthusiasm for Day One’s mission and an ability to think outside the box
Experience with MS Office, Google Workspace,Word, Excel, and database systems helpful

SALARY & BENEFITS:
Salary range is $56,250 – $66,000, dependent on experience and language capacity. Internship Description:
Day One seeks an intern to support our Human Resources & Operations Manager who leads the day to day operations for the organization. This person will support all aspects of the HR and OPS work for Day One. You will report directly to the Human Resources & Operations Manager.
About Day One:
Day One partners with New York City youth to end dating abuse and intimate partner violence through community education, counseling, legal advocacy and youth leadership development. We use an empowerment model that invests young people in maintaining safe relationships for themselves and their peers. Day One’s Administration Team implements inclusive and equitable practices to ensure financial stability, run efficient operations and creatively improve office culture in order to push forward Day One’s mission.
We are seeking an undergraduate or graduate student to participate in a part-time, unpaid HR, Culture & Operations (primarily remote) Internship opportunity during the fall of 2023. We are looking for an intern to Human Resources & Operations Manager starting in September and ending in December, but have some flexibility around start and end dates and the number of hours per week the intern works.
The intern’s primary responsibilities are to support the activities of the Human Resources & Operations Manager while learning about human resources administration for a small non-profit organization. This position works under the supervision of the HR & OPS Manager, and in partnership with various Day One teams/staff to support office events and cultivate a synergetic office culture at Day One.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the creation and implementation of new policies and procedures.
- Prepare new hire orientation packets and assist with onboarding and offboarding
- Digitally file employee paperwork and maintain personnel files
- Assist with data entry, maintain spreadsheets and file supporting documents
- Create PowerPoint presentations and flyers as needed

Job Summary
Day One seeks a paralegal to join our legal team which uses the law to advocate for young survivors and promote healthy relationships. This position will support all aspects of the legal team work, in the areas of case assessment, litigation, policy, training and education. The paralegal will report to the Associate Director of Legal Services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct full intakes and assessments for clients, which include safety assessment and crisis intervention
- Assist clients with obtaining information and documents necessary for their cases, including accompaniment to related offices and agencies, and following up with clients via phone, mail and email
- Support attorneys in managing and tracking caseloads; meeting client needs including making referrals for supportive services and providing legal information
- Assist with case preparation for legal proceedings, including serving and filing documents
- Draft, edit, and proofread written materials, including legal documents, correspondence, trainings materials and other products of the Legal Team
- Maintain well-organized client case files and electronic data entry, including for referrals, and data for grant reporting and administration
- Translate clients personal documents from Spanish to English for USCIS
- Work with Day One staff to determine program direction and expansion, including participating in strategic planning and program evaluation activities
- Other duties and administrative tasks as needed and determined by the Associate Director of Legal Services
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, and/or 3+ years of equivalent experience

Job Summary
Day One seeks a Senior Staff Attorney to join our legal team which uses the law to fight for young survivors and promote healthy relationships. This position will support all aspects of the legal team work, in the areas of case assessment, litigation, policy, training and education. The Senior Staff Attorney will report to the Associate Director of Legal Services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Represent clients in New York City Family Courts and the Integrated Domestic Violence Courts (IDV) in cases involving: orders of protection, custody, visitation, child support, and special findings orders for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.
- Assist clients with IPV-related immigration issues, including VAWA and U Visa applications.
- Advocate for young survivors of IPV with entities including, but not limited to, the NYPD, NYC District Attorney Offices, Administration for Children’s Services, Human Resources Administration, and high schools/colleges.
- Develop and conduct trainings for lawyers, law enforcement, judges and other adults about IPV among youth and the laws impacting young survivors.
- Coordinate community outreach and awareness activities related to teen relationship abuse.
- Represent Day One at meetings, conferences, and panels.
- Develop and update educational materials for teens, young adults, and professionals who work with youth.
- Help complete grant reporting and data collection, and provide assistance to write specific grants as needed.
- Provide co-counsel and mentorship to staff attorneys, paralegals, pro bono attorneys, and post-graduate legal fellows.
- Assist with supervising law student interns, externs, and other legal department volunteers
- Work with Day One staff to determine program direction and expansion, including participating in strategic planning and program evaluation activities
- Perform any other department or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- J.D. degree
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- At least 4 years of legal experience working in Family Court and/or with youth/survivors of IPV is required. Applicants without this experience wil l not be considered.
- Experience handling IPV-related immigration matters and/or Title IX proceedings strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of additional areas of relevant law, including education law, housing law, child protective proceedings, or public benefits is a plus.
- Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.

Job Summary
Day One seeks a licensed master social worker to join our RAPP Team as a full time Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP) Coordinator. The position will be based at a NYC high school.
The RAPP Coordinator will provide the following teen dating violence prevention and intervention services at their high school:
Trauma informed individual and group counseling
Preventive and informative workshops on teen dating abuse and relationship wellness
A peer leadership program
Professional development for teachers and school staff
Community outreach to youth, caregivers, and community members
As a full time employee of Day One, the RAPP Coordinator will be assigned to a New York City high school where they will provide direct services to students Monday-Thursday. On Fridays, RAPP Coordinators work out of the Day One office in lower Manhattan for supervision and team meetings.
Responsibilities of the RAPP Coordinator include but are not limited to the following:
Develop and deliver classroom workshops on healthy relationships, dating abuse, consent and coercion, and other relevant topics.
Develop and deliver training for caregivers, community members, and school-based professionals.
Deliver trauma-informed and anti-oppressive counseling to individuals and groups affected by dating violence.
Collaboratively coordinate and facilitate the Summer Peer Leadership Institute, a 7-week intensive training program for high school youth to learn leadership and advocacy skills.
Coordinate outreach, scheduling, and partnership with community-based organizations
Participate in clinical supervision
Work with Day One staff to determine program direction and expansion, including participating in strategic planning and program evaluation activities
Represent Day One at community-based events, panels, conferences and occasional media opportunities
Assist in tracking program data and service deliverables
Effectively manage program budget
Availability for occasional evening or weekend meetings or presentations
Other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Social Work (LMSW required within the first 6 months of hiring)
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to provide counseling and/or facilitation in additional languages
At least 1 year of experience providing direct services to adolescents with various social locations (ex. race, ethnicity, ability, sexuality, gender, religion, socioeconomic level, housing status, immigration status, criminal justice involvement, foster care involvement, etc.)

Salary and Benefits
The starting salary range for the position of RAPP coordinator at Day One is $56,000. Day One offers a benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, 401k with match, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and vacation. Associate Director of Legal Services
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Associate Director of Legal Services at Day One is responsible for managing the legal services program at the organization. This includes leading a team of attorneys, legal fellows, paralegals, support staff, and interns. The Associate Director provides direct services to clients who are young survivors of IPV and partners with social service and other community providers. The ideal candidate values collaboration and strives for excellence in providing exceptional service to youth accessing Day One’s services. The ability to take initiative, cooperate with others in an interdisciplinary setting, and follow through in a dynamic and highly confidential environment is a must. In addition to these responsibilities, the Associate Director of Legal Services works closely with all Day One departments.This position also will serve as the primary point person for legal services staff in their access to supplies, technology, and office resources. The Associate Director of Legal Services reports directly to the Director of Intervention & Survivor Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the activities of legal services staff in providing legal assistance, including advice, negotiation, litigation and administrative advocacy, to low income clients who are young survivors of IPV, 24 and under.
- Conduct regular case review and supervision meetings with team members to ensure that legal services provided are consistent with Day One priorities, values, policies and procedures, and that they provide the highest quality client service.
- Assist with the recruitment, orientation, onboarding and training of new legal staff
- Counsel and coach staff regarding performance issues; ensure team members receive regular and consistent feedback, guidance and appropriate professional development; and supervise staff to develop annual work plans with quarterly goals.
- Ensure that staff have accurate, timely, and complete information about legal issues in their practice area.
- Ensure that services provided are in compliance with grant requirements and that promised deliverables are attained.
- Provide legal representation, consultations and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other trauma in family and immigration law, child custody and visitation, child support, paternity, education, Title IX, housing and other related matters.
- Maintain a limited but active litigation caseload both independently and as co-counsel with junior staff, and conduct intakes and consultations as needed.
- Supervise and mentor pro bono attorneys, volunteers, and law students.
- Ensure that all positions are filled with qualified staff who have what they need to succeed in their positions.
- Conduct trainings for professionals and occasionally youth in community-based organizations, local agencies, philanthropic partners, and other advocates on youth dating violence, sexual assault, technology abuse, and related matters.
- Contribute to the analysis of policies and trends that affect Day One’s mission and collaborate with leadership and staff to determine Day One’s policy goals and strategies to achieve them.
- Manage the program budget and ensure resources are appropriately distributed.
- Partner with the development team to pursue funding opportunities and maintain donor relations, including providing research, attending site visits, managing external partnerships (MOUs and Letters of Support), and contributing to proposals and reports.
- Provide data and timely written reports for funders as assigned.
- Manage other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- D. and admission to NYS Bar required.
- Experience working with youth, survivors of intimate partner violence, communities of color, and/or underserved communities is required.
- 7+ years of experience as an attorney in family law, immigration, or other relevant law.
- 3+ years of managerial experience working in a highly collaborative environment and supervising a team of diverse and dynamic staff.
- Demonstrated anti-oppressive supervision skills and commitment to anti-racist principles

Associate Director of Social Services
General Description: Day One’s Associate Director of Social Services oversees the social services program at Day One, supervising a team that includes social workers, case managers, interns, and volunteers. Externally, they work closely with social services providers and community partners, building and maintaining strategic relationships to support the delivery of high quality social services to survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence. The AD of Social Services liaises among multiple programs as well as between programs and communications/ development. As a member of Day One’s leadership, the Associate Director of Social Services works in a dynamic and collaborative environment and is responsible for both their own department and organization-wide thinking. The Associate Director of Social Services is supervised by the Director of Intervention and Survivor Services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Social Services Responsibilities
- Supervise the activities of social services staff in providing services to survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence aged 24 and under, including but not limited to case management and individual and support group counseling
- Create and maintain relationships at locations where off-site services are provided
- Ensure that social services are provided in compliance with grant and licensure requirements, and complete or delegate any grant writing and reporting requirements that impact the social services team
- Maintain and monitor high quality data entry, maintenance, and review practices
- Manage department’s budget and participate in annual collaborative budget-building process
- Support implementation of strategic plan through working group participation, including facilitation responsibilities as necessary, related but not limited to social services program areas
- Strengthen and maintain program structure and leadership/decision-making opportunities for Youth Voices Network
- Maintain a limited caseload of survivors as necessary for adequate service delivery
- Manage referral and wait list processes for social services

- Make staffing decisions (i.e. assignment of clients inclusive of all LMSW staff organization-wide, on/off-site work balance, etc)
- Increase service delivery capacity within financial constraints, considering options including use of interns, volunteers, other staff, other service models, etc.

Qualifications:

Job Summary
Day One seeks an energetic and creative social worker with an interest in program management to serve as Day One’s Associate Director of School-Based Services. The Associate Director of School-Based Services must have an LMSW in the state of New York.
The principal duties of the Associate Director of School-Based Services include clinical and administrative supervision; program design and implementation; and evaluation of the RAPP program. The Associate Director will oversee the work of eight social workers (RAPP Coordinators) working onsite in NYC public high schools. In addition to fulfilling responsibilities related to program management and clinical supervision, the selected candidate will assist in development of materials and outreach strategy for the Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP) and assist with other Day One projects as assigned.
The RAPP program implemented by the eight social workers principally involves 1) the development and delivery of a healthy relationships curriculum addressing dating abuse, domestic violence and the law, sexual assault/consent and coercion to youth, caregivers, and school-based professionals; 2) Delivery of individual and group counseling and supportive services to young survivors of dating violence, witnesses, and affected youth as individuals and in groups; and 3) Coordination of a summer Peer Leadership Program
