JOB SUMMARY
Day One is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to provide direct services to young survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). In this role, case management responsibilities will include safety planning, advocacy, and assisting clients in navigating resources and connecting to essential services.
This position is hybrid and will be based at one of the borough-based Family Justice Centers, where Day One has an on-site partnership. Locations include Brooklyn and Queens (On-Site once a week) and Staten Island (fully remote). The selected candidate will collaborate closely with direct service staff and will report to the Director of Community-Based Clinical and Advocacy Services.
ABOUT DAY ONE
Since 2003, Day One has devoted its full resources to preventing intimate partner violence (IPV) among young people. Day One partners with New York City youth to end IPV through a combination of preventive and direct services. Our multi-disciplinary approach brings together a highly collaborative staff with expertise in legal, social service, and education service provision. Serving New York City youth up to 24 years of age, our Direct Services Program provides direct legal representation, advice and information, individual and group counseling, and case management services to survivors.
Day One is a growing, vibrant organization fully committed to continuing its work supporting young people. This position will serve as the primary point person for supporting clients in accessing resources and addressing their case management needs. The Case Manager will also offer outreach and administrative support to our Clinical Services Team.
Day One recognizes that anti-violence work is emotionally demanding and professionally complex. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct full intakes and assessments for clients, which include safety assessment and crisis intervention
- Provide information and complete applications for the Office of Victim Services (OVS) victim compensation
- Connect clients to appropriate referrals based on needs identified from assessment and client
- Provide housing assistance, which can include shelter advocacy, housing applications, and/or other supportive services around permanency
- Provide advocacy with institutions, which can include, but are not limited to, the courts, NYPD, HRA, the Administration for Children’s Services, DOE, and other community-based programs and institutions
- When necessary and appropriate, provide accompaniment to important appointments that can include court appearances, HRA certification, and NYCHA eligibility interviews
- Remain aware of trends and policy changes that can impact client access to resources; Attend trainings that are relevant to the role and client-related work
- Maintain client confidentiality
- Maintain well-organized client case files, including monthly/quarterly service logs and electronic data collection & entry
- Attend weekly individual supervision meetings, monthly group supervision, staff meeting & strategic planning meetings
- Contribute to conversations related to program growth, strategy, and evaluation
- Help create and maintain a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and learning environment, and commit to principles against racism and combating gender inequality
Family Justice Center partnership responsibilities include:
- Maintain relationships and stay updated on Family Justice Centers (FJC) policies, resources, and partnerships
- Attend core trainings and on-site orientation
- When on-site, support with walk-in clients- this could include youth & adult survivors of violence
- Maintain calendar & data management system
- Attend weekly/monthly Team & Advocate meetings (varies by center)
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in liberal arts or the social sciences, or 3+ years of equivalent experience
- 0-2 years case management experience
- Bilingual in Spanish required/strongly preferred
- Enthusiasm for Day One’s mission and an ability to think outside the box
- Exceptional written, verbal, and organizational skills
- Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and time management skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office, data management systems, and Salesforce is a plus
- Ability to work creatively in independent and collaborative settings
SALARY & BENEFITS:
Salary range is $61,000.00 – $65,000.00 annually, dependent on experience and language capacity. Day One offers a benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, 401k with match, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and generous vacation. Depending on the position, Day One is able to offer some hybrid work opportunities.
