Brain Injury Awareness Month

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. Traumatic brain injury is caused by a hit to the head and can range from mild to severe. It’s not always clear how brain injury is related to intimate partner violence (IPV), but new studies have shown a connection. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is usually discussed together with sports injuries, accidents, or falls, but did you know that brain damage is also a consequence of IPV?

The Epidemic Of Violence Against Black Women In The US

Black History Month may have officially ended, but we should continue celebrating Black accomplishments and contributions to society– while also keeping in mind it is important to acknowledge the major gap in justice black people still face. Even though Malcom X famously said that Black women and girls are the most unprotected group in America nearly 60 years ago in 1962, it is still true today. National Condom Week

Valentine’s Day is a day of love and appreciation of your partner, so it’s only fitting that National Condom Week is February 14-21. Contraception, including condoms, is an important part of sex, especially if you are not trying to get pregnant or if you or your partner has a concern about STDs. Barrier methods, such as condoms, are what is suggested for couples who are not fluid bonded. Fluid bonding is when a couple makes the decision to stop using condoms and use another form of contraception during a serious relationship. The safest way to do this is to limit sexual contact to your partner only and to get screened for STIs together. If you are a person who can become pregnant and you don’t want to be any time soon, it is best to use some other sort of contraception, like birth control pills or an IUD.

Stalking And Relationships

People often think stalking is something that only happens to the leads on TV shows, such as the popular Netflix original, You, but stalking happens in real life more than you think. The show is dramatized, of course, and stalking usually begins much more subtly. It can appear seemingly harmless. Stalking is much more common than many people know. A stalker can be someone you’re in a relationship with, they don’t have to be a creepy stranger to be dangerous.

Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. In many ways, this issue is a key part of a global system that relies on the forced labor of vulnerable persons. Trafficking can also intersect with and be a part of domestic violence. It is important to raise awareness about this issue so that we can continue to reduce its impact in 2020 and beyond.
